Floorboard

Built on a competition floor.

The volunteers wanted to help. The organizers wanted to delegate. The plan just lived in two heads.

I volunteered on the organizing team of a functional-fitness competition. On build night, a room full of people who had given up their evening stood around waiting for direction, because the whole plan lived with two organizers and every question went through them. On competition day it happened again, one heat at a time: “What does lane 4 need for heat 6?”

Nobody was doing anything wrong. The volunteers wanted to help and the organizers wanted to hand things off. What was missing was a way to get the plan out of two heads and in front of everyone who needed it. That's an information problem, and information problems can be fixed.

Floorboard is that fix: one shared plan for the build and the floor, on every volunteer's phone, so organizers can run the event instead of answering the same question all day. I'm building it with the first organizers who use it, one competition at a time.

Running a competition this season?

Floorboard is invite-only while we work with our first events. Tell us about yours and we'll walk you through it.
